When I switched over from my Dell PC to a MacBook Pro a couple years back, I was a bit lost as to what software was available for simple, fast video conversions and transcoding. Luckily, I received a recommendation from our lead developer which I’ve had a lot of success with, HandBrake!
Say you have a video file or a DVD that you’d like to convert to a different format, or you are looking to reduce the file size of a video file.
The question arises: How do you convert the file?
I have an answer: Open it with HandBrake, set your paramaters and click “Start”. When you see the “put down that cocktail” message, your new file is ready!
What if I have a question about certain features or options, is there someone who I can ask?
Good question! The HandBrake user guide and community are excellent places to start, and you should have your question(s) promptly answered. You’re also welcome to post your question(s) here in the comments section and I’ll do my best to rustle up a quick and easy answer for you.
Did I mention that HandBrake is free / open source? Yep.
Did I mention that it is cross-platform as well? Yep, that too.
What does “cross-platform” mean? Not a bad question either. It means that regardless if you’re a Mac, PC or Ubuntu user, HandBrake has got you covered!
If you don’t have a copy already at your disposal, you can grab it here.
Have you used HandBrake? Did you enjoy the experience? Share your thoughts here!
