Search Engine Strategies: What you need to know about search engine marketing (SEM), search engine optimization (SEO) and the tactics and best practices of implementing each in your business’ online strategy. We here at AudioAcrobat believe in furthering our knowledge in these areas and sharing as much as we can with our readers on this here WordPress weblog.
During our attendance at the 2011 SES San Francisco event, we made a point of live-tweeting notable quotes and facts from our favorite sessions and are proud to present our readers with a selection of our favorites. Topics covered include Information Architecture, SEO Tools, User Generated SEO, WordPress, HTML5 and Mobile Marketing.
In today’s posting, we’ll cover the fifth installment of SES San Francisco 2011 quotables, highlighting our favorite nuggets of information taken away from the event. Did you catch Pt. 1, Pt. 2, Pt. 3 and Pt. 4? Here’s the final installment aka Pt. 5!
Smart Mobile Marketing
Paul Cushman (Yahoo!), Michael Martin (Covario) and Jamie Wells (Microsoft) were the esteemed gentlemen running things in the Smart Mobile Marketing session at SES SF 2011, and boy did we learn a lot from them about mobile marketing in 2011 (and beyond)!
"Go Daddy: 6900% increase in search queries during Super Bowl commercial break." #sessf #mobile #marketing #quote
— AudioAcrobat® (@AudioAcrobat) August 18, 2011
The above statistic really blew us away. The truly amazing part is that most of those queries occurred on mobile devices.
"2-10% of tablet usage occurs in the bathroom." #sessf #mobile #marketing #quote
— AudioAcrobat® (@AudioAcrobat) August 18, 2011
Believe it or not, there is a surprising amount of data usage while in the restroom. This essentially confirms that the internet is taking over every facet of our lives … sweet!
"The worst thing you can do is use a 3rd party for your mobile site." #sessf #mobile #marketing #quote
— AudioAcrobat® (@AudioAcrobat) August 18, 2011
In terms of SEO, using a 3rd party mobile site provider will essentially ‘steal’ all of your mobile visit statistics and give them directly to the mobile site provider. Instead, do yourself (and your company) a favor and make sure your top level domain is optimized for the mobile user.
"The average search on mobile is about 15 characters in length." #sessf #mobile #marketing #quote
— AudioAcrobat® (@AudioAcrobat) August 18, 2011
I guess we should keep our company names and keyword targeting brief then, huh?
"15% of mobile sessions are occurring in the home." #sessf #mobile #marketing #quote
— AudioAcrobat® (@AudioAcrobat) August 18, 2011
Back to GoDaddy and the Super Bowl. It is just too easy to use our mobile devices (feature phones, smartphones, tablets, etc.) while sitting on the couch … in-between commercials (and often times overlapping other media).
"Recognize that people are media snacking on smartphones and tablets." #sessf #mobile #marketing #quote
— AudioAcrobat® (@AudioAcrobat) August 18, 2011
It’s not that people aren’t consuming media on their mobile devices; which they most assuredly are. It’s more that they’re consuming smaller portions at a time. It’s just that on portable devices movie trailers are more commonly watched all the way through than movies themselves, sports scores are queried more often than live streams and directions to brick & mortar stores are looked up more often than actual purchases are completed.
"By the end of the year, 30% of all phones in the US will be smartphones." #sessf #mobile #marketing #quote
— AudioAcrobat® (@AudioAcrobat) August 18, 2011
People are ditching their traditional landline and older ‘feature’ phones in support of the latest iPhone/Android devices. It’s a fact. How much of an impact smartphones have (as seen above) is the part which is truly amazing; seeing as how the first iPhone is still several months shy of its 5th birthday.
Those are our favorites from Smart Mobile Marketing … Do you have a favorite quote from above or found within Pt. 1, Pt. 2, Pt. 3 or Pt. 4? Perhaps you’d like to share? Please leave a comment below for other readers to engage with.
