Search Engine Strategies: What you need to know about search engine marketing (SEM), search engine optimization (SEO) and the tactics and best practices of implementing each in your business’ online strategy. We here at AudioAcrobat believe in furthering our knowledge in these areas and sharing as much as we can with our readers on this here WordPress weblog.
During our attendance at the 2011 SES San Francisco event, we made a point of live-tweeting notable quotes and facts from our favorite sessions and are proud to present our readers with a selection of our favorites. Topics covered include Information Architecture, SEO Tools, User Generated SEO, WordPress, HTML5 and Mobile Marketing.
In today’s posting, we’ll cover the second installment of SES San Francisco 2011 quotables, highlighting our favorite nuggets of information taken away from the event. Did you catch Pt. 1?
User Generated SEO
Michael DeHaven (lead SEO at Bazaarvoice) made sure to keep things lively during his session User Generated SEO by handing out mint-flavored Ghirardelli chocolates to attendees who correctly answered a couple “secret” questions he had up his sleeve. Sadly, we didn’t win any of these delicious prizes, but the information we took away could be considered priceless; and while it won’t melt in your hand, it is sure to be just as refreshing and energizing as a delectable piece of mint chocolate.
"On product pages, you only want to add 8-10 reviews. Do not dilute." #sessf #usergenerated #seo

When you have a product that has garnered a plethora of reviews, it is extremely important to let the cream rise to the top. Essentially, don’t overload your reader with information. Let them see the most relevant reviews without having to scroll down.
"Bottom line: Make sure you have an archive." #sessf #usergenerated #seo
— AudioAcrobat® (@AudioAcrobat) August 16, 2011
Google likes archives. It’s no secret. If your site produces content, but does not have an archive, Google will not rank you as high as others with archives enabled. Also, it is usually a simple process to implement an archive … especially here on WordPress. All the more reason to bring your history to life today.
"Moderation is very important if you value your online reputation." #sessf #usergenerated #seo
— AudioAcrobat® (@AudioAcrobat) August 16, 2011
Branding is difficult, especially if there is a bad taste in the public’s mouth. Why let a couple misbehaving forum frequenters ruin what has taken your company weeks, months, years, decades or possibly a century or more to build? Make sure that one or more team members are on-point when it comes to comment moderation, as it could potentially make or break your brand.
Those are our favorites from Michael’s session, User Generated SEO … Do you have a favorite quote from above or found within Pt. 1? Perhaps you’d like to share? Please leave a comment below for other readers to see. We’ll be busy prepping Pt. 3!
