Most Popular Tweet
"If they don't look clickable, they're not going to click on it." #sessf
— AudioAcrobat® (@AudioAcrobat) August 16, 2011
It couldn’t be any more plainly stated. People aren’t going to click on things that they don’t believe to be clickable. Shari Thurow gave an extraordinary talk during her session, Information Architecture for the Modern Website on Tuesday, August 16th and we were literally on the edge of our seats tweeting as much of her lecture as possible. Below our readers will find several of our favorites from Shari’s session:
"The less WTFs I see the better user friendly is the website." #sessf
— AudioAcrobat® (@AudioAcrobat) August 16, 2011
Basically, Shari looks at people’s facial expressions when she shows them the architecture of a website. If they give her the “WTF?” face, she knows a restructuring is needed.
"People will link to you when your site is easy to use." #sessf
— AudioAcrobat® (@AudioAcrobat) August 16, 2011
This is another simply stated fact. If your site is user-friendly and provides information others can use … they will link back to you, naturally.
"Giving people too many choices stresses them out." #sessf
— AudioAcrobat® (@AudioAcrobat) August 16, 2011
Don’t confuse your viewer is essentially what this boils down to. Make sure the architecture is simply laid out, allowing your reader to quickly locate the desired information.
The Tools of the Trade for SEO
Bruce Clay, Rob Garner and Jamie Smith tackled the tools used in improving/managing SEO for small-medium-enterprise level companies and shared many nuggets of truth with their audience
"Request your google analytics account be updated to multifunnel." #sessf #symantec #seo
— AudioAcrobat® (@AudioAcrobat) August 16, 2011
This is an update which can only be applied to your Google Analytics account by Google themselves. According to the experts, it will provide a multifaceted view of what is unilateral by default.
"Your organic traffic is what matters … not your ranking." #sessf #symantec #seo
— AudioAcrobat® (@AudioAcrobat) August 16, 2011
So you’ve got a top-ranked site. Now what? Make sure that the organic referrals are converting to sales, phone calls, emails or whatever your specific call to action may be. Ranking is essentially superfluous.
"Nobody reads on the Internet." #sessf #symantec #seo
— AudioAcrobat® (@AudioAcrobat) August 16, 2011
It’s not that people don’t “read” … more importantly they “skim”. Reading full articles is not a common trait in the average internet user. They are looking at headlines, boldfaced items and hyperlinks … as well as embedded images and videos.
