With over 54 million active worldwide Mac users already using Mac OS to the test, it is no big surprise to discover Steve Jobs‘ unveiling of Mac OS X Lion in the coming weeks. In fact, we’ve been anticipating the conjunction of features previously seen only within the mobile iOS software into the desktop/laptop-based Mac OS X line since iOS 4 (April 2010).
In today’s posting we will take our readers through several of our favorite new features found within Mac OS X Lion, which will be available for purchase/upgrade this July.
Multi-Touch Gestures
Have you sever seen Minority Report with Tom Cruise? Remember how he interfaced with his computer?
The new Mac OS X Lion is expanding on the leap forward from mouse/keyboard-driven computing to a hands on approach which utilizes more intuitive and ‘real’ feeling multi-touch gestures including rubber band scrolling, full-screen app switching, zoom and more!
Full-Screen Apps
We mentioned them briefly just a moment ago, but this is another of our favorite new features found in OS X Lion, and in this case title does indeed dictate behavior. And why wouldn’t anyone want to take advantage of the millions of beautiful pixels found in each and every Mac display?
Click to go full screen and toggle between apps with gestures … it’s becoming more and more like Minority Report, right?
Mission Control
Cupertino, we’ve got a problem… Problem? Hardly. Well, unless you call bringing everything running on your Mac into one easy-to-navigate view a ‘problem’.
This omniscient perspective includes Exposé, Dashboard, Spaces and full-screen apps at the click of a button … or a three-finger swipe upward!
Mac App Store
You knew it was coming. You know you will use it. Heck, you probably have been wishing for this ever since your first software purchase.
Whether it was the installation process, the lack of pushed updates or waiting for a box in the mail, we can almost see the joy on your face as you read this text.
Thousands of apps, one location, no muss no fuss. The best part? You can even download to other personal computers/devices without having to purchase another copy!
Launchpad
Aah, Launchpad … our favorite Duck Tales character. Wait, no … that doesn’t seem right. What? Oh, right … Launchpad for Mac!
Apple has made another great advancement in visual presentation. This time focused on the installed apps on your computer, Launchpad will give you a clean view of each and every app that is ready to launch on your Mac. Click away and get ready to blast off!
For the app enthusiasts out there, use a two finger swipe left or right to navigate through the many pages of apps you have installed.
