Have you ever been so enthralled with a television show that nothing or no one could peel you away from it? How about when those (unavoidable) real-world obligations actually force us out of our seats … how do we get our fix? The answer is already in the jacket pockets of over 30 million iPhone users worldwide.
In today’s posting we will take our readers on a short tour of our favorite portable Netflix streaming solution — Netflix for iPhone.
Extra! Extra! Read All About It!
In the past, this phrase was used to draw attention to the fact that something big has happened and that an ‘extra’ paper had been printed that day to include this news. Netflix isn’t necessarily guilty of “killing a bunch of trees” with the headlines they create; rather, they appear to be saving tons of paper by providing integration and streaming solutions via many different devices and services … such as Roku boxes and iPhones.
Did we mention that this is a free application? That’s absolutely correct — free.
Our readers can preview the app on iTunes and we recommend checking out the official tutorial on Vimeo.
In the official Netflix blog post announcing Netflix’s availability for the popular smart phone slash media center, Jamie Odell (Dir. of Product Management ~ Netflix) confirmed the ease of use in which the service integrates with the iPhone and iPod Touch when he said, “all you need to do is get the free Netflix App from the App Store … and have a Netflix membership starting at $8.99 a month.” He also proposed the ominous and somewhat existential question, “What’s the first thing you’ll watch via your iPhone or iPod touch?”.
For us, it was The Office: Season 6 … that’s right, we just can’t get enough of Steve Carell and the rest of the cast; an absolutely hilarious show that can be piped right into our reader’s iPhones with as little as a 3G connection.
Note: Wi-Fi does tend to speed up the download/buffer when streaming movies and television shows on the iPhone, but it is not necessary for an enjoyable experience.
As described on iTunes, there are several key features found in the current version at the time of this posting (Version 1.1.2) which should draw a great deal of attention to the application:
• Watch as often as you want
• Resume watching where you left off on your TV or computer
• Browse movies/manage your instant Queue from your device
As the perfect companion to Netflix for Roku, we are confident that this application will become more of a societal movement than a technological progression … just you wait and see. Perhaps its time to buy some stock? What do you think?
