Ah, good ol’ Independence Day. Nothing excites me more this time of year than promise of BBQ, cold beverages and BOOMING fireworks!
While the county I live in prohibits use of fireworks by civilians, there is always a great display to take in here as part of the mountainous Reno/Sparks skyline, which I will be viewing from the top of a nearby hill, as to avoid the crowds and stay within walking distance of my home.
However, being the entrepreneur I am, my mind is already whirring with ideas on how to further business endeavors while at the same time celebrating the independence of my country (by blowing up a small piece of it).
Here are 5 of the best ideas I’ve had on how to put this national holiday to use for BOOMing business:
Sound Bytes
Think about the booms, the sparklers, the sizzling BBQ, bottles and cans popping, laughter of children, splashing in the pool. All of these sounds can be recorded using anything from your phone to high-end audio equipment and used in future audio / video productions, podcasts, radio shows, musical productions and more! Why pay good money for a sound you can capture yourself?
Stock Video
Capturing firework explosions, a waving flag, crowds of people dancing, sizzling food on the BBQ or even the family dog catching some shut-eye in the shade can make for fantastic video clips which can then be added to your productions. Again, why pay for content that you can capture yourself with anything from your smartphone to a high end video camera?
New Recipes
Over at aunt Janice’s house for the holiday? Is she blowing your mind with that bacon mac and cheese topped off with tater tots? Will you be lucky enough to share the kitchen with her while she makes it? Turn that new recipe into a free offering for your blog readers or repurpose and adapt a gluten-free version for your next cookbook! Whatever you do, make sure you’re there with a camera (iPhone?) capturing the moment!
Networking
If you’re out at a public event, or even gathering with friends and family, no doubt that there will be a plethora of people to chat with during the holiday. Heck, a few of them may even be enjoying an adult beverage or three, which definitely loosens ’em up and makes for a great opportunity to talk a bit of “shop”. Who knows, your next big sale or acquisition may come of it! The fact remains that you’ll never know unless you put yourself out there. Offer to interview them about their expertise using your phone and turn it into a new podcast or radio show episode or transcribe it for inclusion in a new blog post!
Testimonials
Let’s say that you have a product or service to sell. Let’s also say that the people you’re gathering with over the holiday have purchased your product or have used your service. Now let’s go a step further and say that one or more of these people have something AMAZING to say about their experience using that product or service. Let them share their emotion by recording an audio or video testimonial with you in-person over a nice cool serving of potato salad!
While these ideas might be a bit “outside of the box” I can guarantee you that the more we do for our businesses, the further we can take them in a shorter amount of time!
