Whether you’re looking to secure intro music for your podcast, teleconference, video project or audiobook, or you’re looking to create a high quality production of your own, enlisting the aid of royalty-free music, loops and samples will get you where you need to go in the shortest amount of time possible.
In today’s post, I have combed my own personal legally acquired sample libraries to come up with the (5) most popular sources from which my library was built. In no particular order, I am happy to share with you 5 Indisputably Fantastic Royalty-Free Music Resources!
Loopmasters
Hailing from the UK, sporting a massive worldwide presence since 2003, and having a seemingly adventurous advertising budget, chances are that you may have heard about Loopmasters before. The focus of their business is sample and loop libraries and music production software. There is a range of electronic and analog music genres to be found throughout their site, which will definitely keep your productions feeling “fresh” and there are always a plethora of special releases from well-known and respected DJs, producers and musicians to give your productions that certain something that will catch your listeners’ ear. Check out their blog for regular updates and don’t make a purchase without checking the sale section first.
Beatport Sounds
Headquartered in Denver, CO and Berlin, Germany, while also maintaining satellite offices in San Francisco and Los Angeles, Beatport has been around since 2004 and has grown to become the largest music store for DJs in the world. Beatport Sounds is a relatively new addition, but already boasts some of the tightest woven sample libraries those looking for royalty-free sounds could imagine. In addition to their sample libraries, make sure to check out their Music, DJs and Mixes sections to stay up-to-date on what’s HOT right now in DJ land!
iStockaudio
For those of you who already hold an iStockphoto account, this is a no-brainer. The ever-popular stock photography company was started back in the year 2000, and has grown to become a worldwide sensation in stock photography. With a somewhat recent expansion into royalty-free stock audio, you can now use your iStockphoto credits to purchase/licence masterfully created, legally obtained sound bytes to enhance your productions to the n’th degree. Browse the latest uploads and view staff picks for upcoming holidays and occasions alike.
Producer Loops
Operating since 2010 as Producer Loops, and between the years of 2004-2010 as Inspiration Sounds, this is one site that should not be glossed over when it comes to securing high quality, legal downloads of royalty-free sounds. There’s everything from 2000 year old Chinese instruments to synth presets so new they still have the original knob-twiddler’s sweat stains embedded in the included .txt file. Well, that may be going a little too far, but you get what I’m saying, right? Oh, and the sale section is always booming!
Computer Music
OK. You got me. This isn’t really a royalty-free music resource website. But wait. It is. Huh? Yes, Computer Music is a magazine. A magazine which focuses on creating music with your, wait for it…computer. However, each issue of the magazine comes with a DVD chock full of previously-cleared, royalty-free samples for you to use in your productions! Yes! Every month or so, I am overjoyed to receive this magazine in my postal box, for the sheer fact alone that I know I have A LOT more samples to go through. It may not be the most picky choosey way of obtaining music/samples/loops/instruments/software etc., but it sure does work like a charm!

I’d also like to recommend http://www.Shockwave-Sound.com which has some very high quality royalty-free music tracks for licensing, including some stunning Epic Trailer tracks and some real live orchestra recordings etc. Also, their music is not in YouTube Content-ID and is not automatically marked by YouTube as Copyrighted to any company, unlike many other so-called royalty free music sources. I hope this helps.

Excellent — Thank You Bjorn! That’s really great information, and I definitely appreciate how using content NOT auto-flagged by YouTube would be a BIG advantage. Thanks Again!
